Polysporin 1 oz Ointment (28.3 g) is a topical antibiotic used to prevent and treat minor skin infections caused by cuts, scrapes, or burns. It contains a combination of bacitracin zinc and polymyxin B sulfate, two active ingredients that work synergistically to inhibit the growth of bacteria. This dual-action formulation provides effective protection against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, aiding in faster wound healing and reducing the risk of infection.

The mechanism of action involves disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis (bacitracin) and increasing cell membrane permeability (polymyxin B). These actions lead to bacterial death and inhibit the proliferation of harmful microorganisms at the site of application. Polysporin ointment is particularly beneficial for minor wounds where a barrier against infection is essential.

The ointment is suitable for use on intact skin and should be applied directly to the affected area after cleaning and drying the wound.
